FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION OF WALES - INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF AREA ASSOCIATIONS

The Brief:

To carry out an in-depth independent review of the Football Association of Wales’ (FAW) six Area Associations. Considering a range of elements including governance, workforce, operations, responsibilities, communication and structures, the review should identify a series of recommendations to ‘establish modern regional structures that are empowered and resourced to deliver the Welsh football strategic plan’ and deliver the FAW’s vision ‘From parks football to the world stage – a global local Wales’.

SDY approach & impact:

The review was split up into seven stages spread across six months, which included desktop research, benchmarking, two rounds of face-to-face meetings with each Area Association and a wide-reaching stakeholder survey to a range of grassroots officials. Early recommendations were tested with the project steering group, the FAW senior management team, before ultimately being presented to the both the Community Game Board and full FAW Board for discussion and agreement in February 2023.
